Summer is the time when excessive heat does not allow you to get outside to enjoy yourself, and you stay indoors as much as you can. It’s the time when we want to turn our homes into a freezer. But excessive energy use not only raises your bills but also contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and global warming.

If you’re wondering how to keep your home cool during the summer in cost-effective ways, you are in the right place. This article will offer tips for keeping your home cool and comfortable on a budget.

  1. Close your Blinds

Window blinds are essential for indoor temperature control. They are used in both summer and winter. To keep your home cool during the summer, keep the blinds closed. They help block the sun’s harsh rays that warm your home. So think about investing in window blinds; to purchase them, search Google for “window blinds near me,” and you’ll get many results. Buy them from a reliable shop. Blinds not only keep your home cool but also improve its aesthetic appeal.

  1. Block the Heat

To improve cooling efficiency, you should block heat from entering your living space. Stopping heat from coming into your house is the most important step of getting cooling. You should shade the windows to prevent sunlight from entering by using external coverings, such as blinds, awnings, or large potted plants. Plants, especially trees, provide shade over your home in summer and let the sun shine in winter.  If possible, invest in window tinting and ceiling insulation that contribute to cooling in winter.

  1. Manage Airflow and Fans

Set ceiling fans to spin counterclockwise at high speed to push cool air straight down. Also, open windows at night to create a cross-breeze when outdoor air drops below indoor temperatures. You can also place a bowl of ice in front of a portable fan to create a chilled mist effect.

In warm weather, keep the fan speed high; in normal temperatures, keep the speed low. Check that the fans are rotating in the right direction; it can make a world of difference to your home’s temperature.

  1. Reduce Internal Heat

No matter how much you use the air conditioner or blinds, etc you will not get good results until you reduce internal heat. For this, you should switch to LED bulbs, as incandescent bulbs emit excess heat.

Turn off unused electronics and computers that radiate warmth when idle. Also, try cooking outdoors on a grill or using a microwave instead of running a hot oven. Keep a check on the things that increase heat and don’t let your living space cool.

  1. Hang out in the Evening

Closing your windows and doors and staying home is a great way to hang out during summer. Direct heat exposure will make you sick, so you don’t need to go outside; instead, arrange to get together at home. Cooking in your backyard and hosting parties at home are smart ideas.
